Sunnyvale, CA -- October 1, 2003 -- Yahoo! Health today announced its support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by launching new features and tools within its Breast Cancer Health Center. On Wednesday, October 1, the Yahoo! home page (www.yahoo.com) will feature a dynamic campaign unit featuring rotating images of more than 30 well-known actors, athletes, musicians, politicians, and community leaders, all of whom have joined Yahoo! Health to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention. By clicking on one of the images, consumers are connected to the Breast Cancer Health Center on Yahoo! Health (http://health.yahoo.com).
The Breast Cancer Health Center provides comprehensive news and information about breast cancer prevention and treatment, including information about reducing breast cancer risk factors, guidelines for mammograms, instructions for self breast examinations, types of treatments, different forms of breast cancer, and screening information. The Breast Cancer Health Center also offers a wealth of tools, services and other editorial resources from some of the world's leading authorities on breast cancer, including the American Cancer Society and Dr. Gail Lebovic. Dr. Lebovic will be authoring a new "Ask the Expert" column as well as contributing valuable content exclusive to Yahoo! Health.
"Currently, a woman living in the United States has a one in eight lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. Almost everyone is touched by breast cancer, either by battling the disease themselves or with the diagnosis of a family member or a close friend," said Tina Pang Mayer, general manager, Yahoo! Health. "It is extremely important that consumers arm themselves with accurate knowledge to help them through the entire process when they, or someone they care about, is diagnosed with breast cancer."
Through its dedicated Breast Cancer Health Center, Yahoo! Health can help people diagnosed with breast cancer minimize many uncertainties. Yahoo! Health benefits anyone looking for credible information and additional resources, whether a consumer is looking to research the disease and potential treatment options, wants to read survivors' stories, join a group or post to a message board, or find the best ways to support loved ones who have received a breast cancer diagnosis.
Also available on the site throughout October will be an interactive breast cancer treatment finder tool, a charity donations directory, a page with a selection of products that offer proceeds to various breast cancer charities, a mammogram locator, frequently updated "question-and-answer" sessions from Dr. Gail Lebovic, and much more.
The exclusive pharmaceutical sponsor of Yahoo! Health's Breast Cancer Awareness promotion is Aventis Oncology.
