Yahoo! Search is better than ever. Yahoo!'s founding vision was to help people find what they're looking for. In 2002, we further facilitated that process by creating the Search and Marketplace vertical which includes Yahoo!'s Search, Shopping, Auctions, Travel, Autos, Real Estate, Yellow Pages and Maps businesses. Search and Marketplace was introduced to effectively enable consumers to research and find relevant and comprehensive results, as well as to enable businesses to cost-effectively reach targeted audiences of consumers who spend time online.
Sponsored Search is a key initiative. The underlying foundation behind all our Search and Marketplace services is Yahoo!'s search technology. We are focused on building the most relevant and comprehensive search experience on the Web for the millions of people searching on Yahoo! every day. We plan to accomplish this by creating a truly integrated search experience, leveraging content in leading vertical properties such as travel, shopping and local resources like yellow pages.
The Inktomi acquisition complements other search enhancements. Search continues to be one of Yahoo!'s most important company initiatives. Over the last year, we continued to build our world-class team and search organization, improved the quality of our search results, acquired Inktomi, a leading search technology provider, conducted extensive research to understand consumer needs and launched the new Yahoo! Search.
Search is the linchpin to increased value. In addition, monetization of search remains an important part of Yahoo!'s overall strategy, which includes paid search and Yahoo!'s Sponsor Results program, a service provided through our alliance with Overture that enables businesses to bid for enhanced placement in search results on terms that are relevant to their business.
Find and buy almost anything in our marketplace. Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! Travel continue to provide key gateways for consumers to research, compare and buy almost anything online. Yahoo! Travel provides one-stop access to hundreds of airlines and tens of thousands of hotels, as well as a broad selection of cruise and vacation packages. Yahoo! Shopping provides consumers access to hundreds of major retail brands as well as specialty items from more than 15,000 merchants.
Yahoo! is your local service. Yahoo! Get Local is comprised of Yellow Pages, Maps and City Guides - rounding out a single destination for all things "Local." Businesses - large and small - have many opportunities to market their products and services through the Yahoo! network, and one of the most effective ways of doing this is through Yahoo! Yellow Pages. Yahoo!'s broad reach and integration with our Search product offers businesses more opportunities to be found through online yellow pages.
Visit a virtual car showroom. Yahoo! Autos provides a wide range of information, tools and resources to help people research, buy, sell and own cars, including extensive auto photo galleries, detailed information on standard and optional features, car reviews and even interactive 360-degree virtual tours of cars that give users an experience that is the closest thing to "kicking the tires."
